# Bloom Energy Jumps After Musk Flags AI Power Constraints

> Elon Musk said power, cooling and infrastructure are bigger constraints on superintelligence deployment than chips, and Bloom Energy shares jumped nearly 6% in extended trading.

Bloom Energy shares rose nearly 6% in extended trading after Elon Musk said power, cooling and infrastructure are the main limits on deploying superintelligence. The stock closed at $238.53 on October 21, 2026, up 7.13% in regular trading, and has climbed more than 174% in 2026 as of October 22, 2026.

## What happened

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk told an investor call that power, cooling and infrastructure, not chips, are the main limits on deploying superintelligence. "As I think people are starting to realize, the constraint on deployment of superintelligence is more in power and cooling and infrastructure than it is in chips," he said.

Shares of Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) jumped nearly 6% in extended trading after his remarks. Nuclear power stocks rose less. Oklo, NuScale Power and X-Energy each climbed about 2%, while Nano Nuclear Energy gained 1.5%. The gap suggests the market tied Musk's comments more closely to Bloom Energy than to the nuclear developers.

## Why it matters

Bloom Energy's fuel cells generate power directly at data centers without turbine blades or years-long grid connections, according to Shay Boloor of Futurum Equities Research. That, he said, could bring billions of dollars of idle GPUs online faster.

Oracle said in April that Bloom Energy fuel cells would power its New Mexico campus, which could reach 2.45 GW, or gigawatts, of capacity.

Musk said SpaceX aims to add an incremental 20 gigawatts of power and cooling infrastructure next year to keep power from constraining its build-out. He also said the plan would include "many different sources of power, not just gas turbines." If large builders look past gas turbines, on-site options such as fuel cells could draw more attention.

## By the numbers

## What to watch

SpaceX reported 1.7 GW of nameplate compute capacity as of September 30, 2026. Its management expects that figure to reach 2.5 GW to 3 GW by the end of 2026. That target belongs to SpaceX, not to Bloom Energy's guidance.
