# Audi Plans $4 Billion Georgia Factory

> Audi's first U.S. manufacturing plant would rise at the Middle Georgia Megasite near Macon, pending approval from Volkswagen's supervisory board.

Audi plans to invest about $4 billion in its first U.S. manufacturing plant, located at the Middle Georgia Megasite near Macon. The facility would produce the Q7, Q8 and Q9 SUVs and create about 4,500 jobs, pending approval from Volkswagen's supervisory board.

## What happened

Audi plans to invest about $4 billion to build its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Georgia. The plant will be built at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Macon.

At a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, Donald Trump said Audi would commit $4.2 billion to build a plant in nearby Macon with capacity for 200,000 cars a year. Audi's own figure is $4 billion, not $4.2 billion.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner joined Trump on stage at the rally. He said the plant would produce "our biggest and most premium SUVs."

## Why it matters

The Georgia plant is set to begin producing Audi's Q7, Q8 and Q9 models in the early 2030s. Audi plans to export roughly half of the vehicles built there each year outside the United States.

U.S. tariffs cost Audi 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion) last year. Audi imports all of its U.S. models from Europe or Mexico. Tariffs on vehicles from Germany stand at 15%, down from 25%, as of October 2026.

Audi's U.S. deliveries fell 16% from 2024 to 2025. They stayed roughly flat through the third quarter of 2026. With about half the plant's planned output headed abroad, its volume wouldn't rest on U.S. demand alone.

## By the numbers

- The Georgia plant is designed for annual capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles.
- Audi expects to create about 4,500 new jobs at the site.
- Audi of America delivered 39,751 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026.

The delivery number counts vehicles sold in one quarter, while the capacity number is a yearly production ceiling, so the two don't compare directly.

## What to watch

The investment still needs approval from the supervisory board of Volkswagen, Audi's parent company. If the plan moves forward, Audi expects grading of the site to begin in 2027, construction to start in 2028, and full production by 2031. For readers tracking the project, the Volkswagen board's decision marks the first waypoint to watch.
